So why is it that we don’t get the results we want when we are exercising and dieting???
This could be down to two factors
- Our exercise is not effective for your goals
- We are canceling out our sweaty efforts by not eating the right things
The way we look, feel and function boils down to this-
80% Nutrition and only 20% exercise. So technically one step forward by dragging yourself out to exercise but if you’re not looking at what you’re eating daily, you could be taking two steps back and undoing all your hard work!
Soooo the message is, that we need to ditch the diet mentality because diets don’t work!
Fuel your body for the workout you are doing, stay in a calorie deficit and you will achieve those results but BEWARE.
- Not all calories are equal. A 600-calorie meal of veggies, lean protein, and complex carbs will provide your body with nutrients and leave you satisfied.
OR
Eat 6 bags of quavers for your 600-calories
No brainer, right?! - Ditch the scales! 5lbs of muscle weighs THE SAME as 5lbs of fat. But muscle is denser, so it takes up less space. Means- you could weigh the same (despite weight loss and fat reduction being your goal) but look so much slimmer, firmer, and more toned! Take that tape measure out and notice how your clothes fit, this is a much better way. Your waistline is your lifeline and should be the same as when you’re a young person.
In terms of nutrition, we know that for your body to be healthy it needs a balance of 40% carbohydrate 30% protein, and 30% healthy fats (omega 3s) We also need vitamins & minerals, fiber, at least 25g a day, hydration, rest and movement.
If your body is lacking in one of these it tells you!
This leads to craving and fatigue and low mood as we fail during dieting- deprivation is not the answer.
